Dental sealants are resin coatings applied to grooves of teeth to prevent cavities. The grooves on the chewing surfaces of molars are the most common places to form cavities. This is because these grooves are so small that they cannot be adequately cleaned with normal brushing. Dental sealants help shield these grooves from cavity causing bacteria.
